Arrow Exterminators, Inc. is a local, family-owned pest control business, founded in 1946 by Dave Goforth Sr. and his wife Marjorie. Dave’s interest in entomology began during World War II while he was stationed at Fort Bragg in the Medical Detachment Unit researching mosquitoes and the malaria epidemic facing his fellow servicemen.
Following the war, Dave set up shop in Greensboro combatting the local pest population. Not without a flare for the creative and a sense of humor, the service vehicles were Volkswagon Beetles hand-painted like lady bugs, a memorably colorful and beneficial bug. Thus, Arrow Exterminators’ slogan became “The Famous Lady Bug Service”.
As the business grew, Dave went on to become a founder of the North Carolina Pest Control Association and served as it’s first President in 1952. He was later awarded the first honorary lifetime membership to the North Carolina Pest Control Association.
Dave served as President of Arrow Exterminators, Inc. from 1946 until 1979. Today Arrow is a Women Business Enterprise owned and operated by Dave Sr’s widow, Marjorie Goforth, and their daughter Mary-Ellen Goforth, the company’s licensee. Arrow Exterminators was founded on, and is still committed to, the basic principle of personalized care and attention given to each customer based on the express needs of that customer.
